Media & Psychology: Causes and Consequences of Media Use across the Life Span

This course will examine the interactions between media and humans from both a developmental and socio-cultural psychological perspective. Topics will include young children's learning from media; adolescents' social media identities and experiences as well as mental well-being; media influences on violence, stereotypes & prejudice, susceptibility to “fake news” and more. Students will engage in their own research study on a topic of their choosing related to media and psychology as part of this course. This September course will focus on small group discussions as well as incorporate guest speakers, films, and possible field trip outings.
