How to Register

Step 1: Request Term Activation (beginning Monday, February 19)

To register for courses, current UChicago undergraduate students must first request access to register through myUChicago. Please go here for directions on how to find the Summer Activation Request Form. For full instructions, see this page on the Registrar's website. Once that access has been granted, you may register for courses.

Step 2: Register for Classes

College student registration for regular Summer Session courses begins February 19 and the UChicago Course Search will be available on that date. Students can also use the Summer Session Course Finder to review the Summer Quarter and Summer Language Institute course offerings before then. You must register for undergraduate courses on my.uchicago.edu before May 31. After May 31, you can complete this form to add or drop courses.

For Summer Language Institute, current UChicago MA or PhD students may self-enroll beginning March 25. Prior to this date, MA and PhD students will be enrolled through their home departments or divisions - contact your Dean of Students office for more information.

All students should consult with their Academic Adviser before enrolling in Summer Session courses.

Enrollment Limits
Because Summer Session courses are on a more intensive schedule, it is not feasible to take the same number of courses concurrently as you would during a normal academic quarter and two Summer Quarter courses are the equivalent of a full-time course load.  While it is not recommended, students can take up to five total courses in the summer, as long as they are not enrolled in more than two courses that take place during the same dates. Some Summer Language Institute courses are 300 units and, therefore considered full-time by themselves. 

Simultaneous Enrollments
Ordinarily, students may not enroll in courses whose class time overlaps given the expectation that all students attended courses for which they receive credit. However, in Summer 2024, simultaneous enrollment may be permitted in remotely taught courses with the permission of both instructors and the approval of the Summer Session office.  Please find directions and a survey to submit a request at 2024 Undergraduate Simultaneous Enrollment Request.

The Waitlist Form should only be used to request placement on a waitlist for Summer Quarter courses that are full. Students who wish to add or drop a course may do so via the self-enrollment process. 

Due to the volume of these requests, we cannot accommodate incomplete or inaccurate submissions. 

Students are added to a course waitlist in the order their request is submitted, on a first come/first served basis, and seats are filled from the waitlist as they become available in this same order. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Because The Summer Session Office manages all waitlist requests, appeals sent to instructors will be routed to our office. Please do not appeal to the course instructor, as they do not oversee the waitlist process.

If you would like to request to be placed on the waitlist for more than one course, please submit this form separately for each request.

Unlike the rest of the academic year, the summer term is not automatically activated so students must request summer term activation. Students without an active term cannot enroll themselves or be enrolled by another individual.  If you have not already done so, please go to https://registrar.uchicago.edu/registration/college-process/self-term-activation/ to request summer term activation before submitting this form.

This form should only be used to request placement on a waitlist for:

• current UChicago undergraduate students wishing to enroll in Summer Quarter courses that are full or
• current UChicago undergraduate students ONLY who wish to enroll in Summer Language Institute or September Term courses that are full

Current or incoming UChicago graduate students wishing to enroll in Summer Language Institute courses that are full must submit the 2024 SLI Waitlist for Graduate Students. Contact your Dean of Students office if you have questions.
