Summer Housing for Undergraduates
We welcome students from across the world to experience our vibrant residential community.
UChicago offers on campus housing for students enrolled in Summer or September classes. Summer Session staff help you connect with other students, offer support, and encourage you to explore all the resources available to you during the summer.
Eligibility
Students enrolled in at least one Summer or September course are eligible to apply for housing for the duration of their course. Students are required to move into their housing assignment on the day before their course(s) begins and to move out the day after their course ends.
Costs
The cost of the Summer Session housing & dining plan is $1,050 per week.
This information does not apply to the MBL Summer Quarter courses.
Housing FAQs
Application Deadlines:
Feb. 19: Summer housing application for undergraduate Students opens
May 1: Housing application deadline and finalization date for classes beginning June 10
June 1: Housing application deadline and finalization date for classes beginning on or after July 1.
Finalization Deadlines:
For courses that begin on June 10: Housing arrangements become final and binding on May 1.
For courses that begin on or after June 30: Housing arrangements become final and binding on June 1.
Once you submit a housing application, housing arrangements will be made for you. After the applicable finalization date, you will be responsible for all charges associated with your housing and dining plan.
These charges cannot be refunded or reduced after the finalization date.
If space permits, students may be able to add housing or dining after the application deadlines. You should contact summersession@uchicago.edu.
If you reduce your number of weeks or withdraw from housing altogether after the June 1 finalization date, no matter when you were scheduled to move in, you will be responsible for all charges associated with your original arrangements.
Summer 2025 Move-in Dates:
June 15: Move-in for Summer Quarter classes beginning June 16
July 6: Move-in for Summer Quarter classes beginning July 7
August 24: Move-in for September Term classes.
Please note: check-in starts at 10 a.m. Early arrivals cannot be accomodated.
Summer 2025 Move-Out 2025 Dates:
You must check out of your residence hall by 9 a.m. the day after your classes end (e.g., if your last class is on Friday, June 27, then you must check out of the residence hall by 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.)Housing arrangements once your class ends and during gap periods:
Summer Session cannot guarantee or make arrangements for specific halls or for any other academic quarters.
You need to arrange outside accommodations during the gap period. You will required to move all items out at the end of their stay (no storage is available on Campus).
If you live in College Housing during September Term and have a housing contract for Autumn Quarter, you may request to extend your September housing assignment to cover the one-week gap between September Term and Autumn Quarter.
An all-you-care-to-eat dining plan is provided to students living on campus during the Summer. Credit is not issued for meals not eaten.
Commuter students are welcome to purchase meals by debit/credit to eat in the dining hall when it is open.
Summer Dining Commons have vegetarian and vegan options at every meal. If you have food allergies or other special dietary needs, please list them in your housing application. Kosher and halal stations are not offered during Summer Quarter.Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the summer dining commons seven days a week:
• Breakfast: 7:30–9:30 a.m.
• Lunch: 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
• Dinner: 5:30–7:30 p.m.UChicago Dining does not allow to-go meals. Contact UChicago Dining to purchase Maroon Dollars for other dining options outside regular serving hours.
One residence hall is open to Summer Session undergraduate students. It is announced in the Spring of each year.
Each hall is air-conditioned and offers single and double rooms, both community and single-user bathrooms. Gender-specific areas are designated in each hall, including community bathrooms.All bedrooms are fully furnished with an extra-long twin bed, towels, desk and chair, dresser, bookshelves, lighting, and window treatments.
Amenities include multiple lounges and recreation rooms, laundry facilities, wireless internet service, vending machines, and 24-hour front desk service.
Summer Staff cannot make arrangements for any other type of campus housing (married student housing, International House, sublets, etc.). Nor can we guarantee a particular building or room type.
Single rooms are available, but cannot be guaranteed without an accommodation arranged ahead of time through Student Disability Services. Please indicate your room preference on the housing application.
If you request a double room and would like to request a specific roommate of the same gender, both you and the other student must list each other as a requested roommate.
When you check in to the residence hall, you receive a room number and mailing address information.
Mail can be picked up at the residence hall front desk or mail room. The desk is staffed 24 hours a day. Staff will sign for all priority packages.
Mail or packages that arrive for Summer students before they arrive or after they depart will be returned to the sender.
Summer Session students cannot host overnight guests in the residence halls. Guests may visit the residence halls between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily as long as they are escorted by their hosts and sign in at the front desk.
