*The Program fee for 3 Week Immersion students who live in the Chicagoland area and choose to commute is $5,850. You must indicate your desire to commute in your application.

Any student can apply for financial aid if they know they will need financial support to participate in Summer Session. To be considered for need-based financial aid, students must complete the required information in the application. Summer Session awards aid based on demonstrated financial need and makes it available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who require aid are strongly encouraged to apply during the Priority Round. Limited full and partial aid packages are available.
Financial Aid for 2-8 Week Programs
Aid will be applied toward the program fee (e.g., tuition, housing, and dining), but students are responsible for travel to and from UChicago, any incidental expenses, and required course materials. International students should also budget for visa-related costs. Students applying for financial aid in 2-8 Week Programs need to upload financial documents on the Financial Aid Application page.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents: submit your parents' latest 1040s and W2s.
International students: provide your parents' most recent tax forms, a letter from their employer (with job details and salary), and a bank statement showing available funds.

Aid amounts vary based on program cost and household income. Depending on their financial eligibility and the availability of remaining funds, students typically receive between the following amounts:
2 Week Career Insight: $500 - $4,000
3 Week Immersion: $500 - $6,600
4 Week Research Practicum: $500 - $11,000
3-5 Week Summer Online: $500 - $3,500
6-8 Week Pre-College Summer Language Institute: $500 - $6,000
Financial Aid for 1 Week Enrichment Programs
In general, domestic students whose annual household income is $120,000 or below are eligible for the following financial support for 1 Week Enrichment only:

If students or families need support beyond what is provided here, there is space on the application to provide additional context for the additional aid requested.
*Domestic students who are admitted and awarded this funding will be notified with instructions on how expenses will be covered. Travel expenses for students coming from outside of the U.S. are not covered except for students admitted to Emerging World Leaders.
Chicago Public School students are encouraged to apply for the Summer Bridge scholarship! The Summer Bridge scholarship can be applied toward any course in 3 Week Immersion, Summer Online, ore Pre-College Summer Language Institute. Students applying through an external scholarship cohort do not pay an application fee or submit a Financial Aid Application. However, they must indicate their partnership program on the application, and the organization must confirm the student's affiliation with the Summer Session Office separately.
Dependent children of full-time, benefits-eligible University of Chicago faculty, academic appointees, and staff admitted to Summer Session programs offered by the College receive a 25% tuition discount for up to two courses. For more details, visit the Summer Session Tuition Benefit page.
A student must accept their offer of admission and submit a non-refundable $1,000 deposit within one week of admission to hold the student's place in the program. This deposit can be paid via credit card and will be charged to the student's UChicago Account. The full balance must be paid within four weeks of admission, or the student will forfeit their place in the course. If the balance is not paid, students will forfeit their place in the course.
Withdrawing
All students who have confirmed their admission will be registered for their course(s); if you decide to withdraw after you have sent in your confirmation form and deposit, you must email summersession@uchicago.edu with an official withdrawal request. Students will be billed for the program fee if they have not officially withdrawn. n accepting the offer of admission and submission of the $1,000 enrollment deposit, students will be registered for their courses. If you choose to withdraw from the course after submitting the confirmation form and deposit, you must send an official withdrawal request via email to summersession@uchicago.edu.
Please note: Verbally informing an instructor or not attending classes does not constitute an official withdrawal.
Refunds
All requests for refunds must be made in writing to summersession@uchicago.edu.
After receiving the written request for a refund, the program fee (minus deposit) can be refunded until May 5, 2025. After May 5, no refunds will be issued.
Application fees and the enrollment deposit are non-refundable for all programs.
Students who must leave the program due to a medical or serious family situation that prevents them from completing the program should contact summersession@uchicago.edu to discuss financial obligations.
A full refund of program fees, including enrollment deposits, will only be issued if a course or program is cancelled and the student does not choose a replacement.
