Course Code
ARTV 10100 12
Course Description
This course introduces basic formal elements and principles of art through a series of hands-on projects and critical discussions of perennial issues in the visual field, with a focus on 2-dimensional media.
Drawing, collage, and photography will be employed to study how form communicates content— historically and across disciplines. Informal writing and visual thinking strategies will be employed to increase our capacity for engaged observation and confidence when responding to artworks, no matter what medium.
Topics as varied as, but not limited to, illusion, analogy, metaphor, time and memory, nature and culture, abstraction, the role of the author, and universal systems will be illuminated through these primary investigations.
